Four Phase Management of Vision in Sport

MICHEL GUILLON SPORTS VISION CLINIC “Four Phase Management Sport Vision Programme” is a customised approach unique to the clinic to manage people involved in sport. The programme follows a general protocol but is customised for each athlete, based upon the results of the assessment carried out and the objectives set to be achieved.

Phase 1 is an advanced optometric assessment that incorporates the measurement of refractive error, the assessment of binocular vision, the measurement visual performance measurement and colour vision and the assessment of ocular health including a detailed examination of the ocular structures.

Phase 2 is carried out in conjunction with Phase 1; it incorporates a series of sport specific measurements carried with any vision correction the athletes use during sport. The measurements include the measurement of direction of gaze dependant ocular dominance of time controlled visual on performance of vision motor response reaction time and peripheral awareness.

Phase 3 is the management of any identified vision or ocular defect. The most common corrective actions are the fitting of contact lenses to correct short-sightedness and / or astigmatism and remedial vision training of binocular defects using computer based system managed by the clinic via the web.

Phase 4 is the development and implementation of bespoke training programmes for teams and individual athletes to achieve the highest level of visual efficiency. The programme involves the use of specialised, advanced equipment such as wireless eye-tracker, computerised vision reaction time board, MG Vision software, etc.
