SPORTS VISION

Sports vision has been practised by optometrists since the late 1970’s, paradoxically little quality research has been carried out by vision professionals in the field of sports vision during this time. Hence, currently the approach to sports vision is largely empirical.

Dr Michel Guillon, following initial work with Australian cricketers in the mid 1980’s, decided to have a scientific approach to sports vision based upon an in depth understanding of the sport analysed, the determination of the specific visual demands of the sport, the development and validation of new instrumentation and assessment techniques to quantify and help optimise “vision strategy in sport”.

The research work, which is still on going, has resulted in the development of a science based management of Vision in Sport. The unique clinical programme in place at MICHEL GUILLON SPORTS VISION CLINIC combines research work with Dr Michel Guillon's extensive experience managing elite athletes in various sports.

The programme now available to both elite and recreational sports men and women is a global “Four Phase Management Sport Vision Programme” that includes:

i.    Advanced optometric assessment
ii.   Sport specific vision measurement
iii.  Management of vision and ocular defects
iv.  Sport specific vision and vision strategy enhancement

A dual service is offered: to individual people involved in sport at the practice and to the clubs on their premises for the testing of a group of players.
