The Zeiss Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer, the instrument used at MICHEL GUILLON, is the gold standard for the precise assessment of the field of vision. The instrument determines the sensitivity of the peripheral retina to detect flashing lights of different intensities and locations. The instrument gives a plot of the field of vision of the eye and by comparison to a reference database indicates whether or not the results are within the normal range.

The instrument is very versatile, both allowing for the rapid routine screening of all patients and the precise measurement of any visual field defect.

Visual field measurement is an important part of the health check of the eye. In glaucoma, the measurement of the visual field is one of the three diagnostic features of the disease. Anomalies of the visual pathway , that may or may not be associated with symptoms, also produce visual field defect detected by its measurement; at times these are the first signs of a neural problem and the source of early referral.
