Eye Nutrition AM Programme
The MICHEL GUILLON Eye Nutrition AM Programme is in two phases: Analysis and Management.

The principle followed is to analyse the problem and ,if necessary, suggest supplementation with potential ocular benefits in the context of the overall risks to the patient. In particular for those patients who already take supplements, as a primary eye care practitioner, the approach is to maximise the use of such supplements for ocular benefits.

Analysis

The first step  to have patients complete a dedicated questionnaire to: i) Identify the risk level of developing eye diseases that may benefit from supplementation and ii) Quantify the intake of micro nutrients in the form of supplements, if applicable.  From the information we estimate the relative risks of specific eye diseases and assess the suitability (or any short fall) of current supplementation used.

The second step is the measurement of macular pigment density with the MPOD device to quantify the status of the macula and the taking of a range of digital photographs to record the status of the anterior segment of the eye.

Management

The findings of the analysis are explained and a customised management plan is set up. The management plan is dependent upon the patient's unique circumstances, hence, the recommendations can be as variable as indicated below:

  • No specific need for supplementation in the context of ocular benefits.
  • A recommended supplementation regimen, taking into consideration possible risks of such supplements.
  • Tear sampling and/or referral to a medical nutritionist for blood and/or urine analysis.
