The Eye Nutrition Service is part of the holistic approach to eye care taken at MICHEL GUILLON. Optimising the supply of the nutrients necessary to the eye is one important aspect, particularly for those patients at statistically higher risks to develop eye problems later in life.
“Nutritional changes can reduce the risk of dry eye and macular degeneration in later life. There is evidence that taking anti-oxidants and eating the right kind of foods can protect the health of the eye.”
More than half of over 40's take supplements, which are generally self prescribed, however in most cases people are not educated in the benefits of vitamins and anti-oxidants on the eye. The approach is therefore to give guideline as to the type of food to consume but also advise on supplementation. The absorption of nutrients is less efficient later in life than in youth, hence, often the use of supplement is advisable.
Advice on changes of habits, such as smoking or protection from UV radiation, are complementary guidelines to the nutritional service in the context of Dr Michel Guillon approach to holistic eye health.
