Sports vision has been practised by optometrists since the late 1970’s, paradoxically little quality research has been carried out by vision professionals in the field of sports vision during this time. Hence, currently the approach to sports vision is largely empirical. Dr Michel Guillon, following initial work with Australian cricketers in the mid 1980’s, decided to have a scientific approach to sports vision based upon an in depth understanding of the sport analysed, the determination of the specific visual demands of the sport, the development and validation of new instrumentation and assessment techniques to quantify and help optimise “vision strategy in sport”. The sport visions services are principally aimed at the elite athletes; a dual service is offered to individual athletes at the clinic, where specialised instrumentation is available and on club premises where a testing suite is built to test groups of players. |
