NEW INSTRUMENT TO ANALYSE DRY EYE

The TearLab Osmometer, which is the first instrument approved for clinical use to diagnose and monitor dry eyes, has been delivered at MICHEL GUILLON.  The  instument has just become availble in Europe and MICHEL GUILLON is the first optometic practice in London and one of only  a few in the Uk to have received delivery of the instrument.

The diagnosis of dry eye is based upon a series of criteria that have been internationally agreed under the hopices of the  Tear Film and Ocular Society.   One criteria of dry eye is the tear salt consent or osmolarity: the more severe the condition the higher the osmolarity.  Hence, monitoring changes in osmolarity is a key marker  of the efficacy of the management in place.

The TearLab Osmometer uses disposable electonicchips to measure the tear salt content; only a very tiny amount of tear is needed for the measurement that takes only a few seconds to sample.
