TEAR EVAPORATION AND CONTACT LENSES

A major paper entitled "Contact Lens Wear Affects Tear Film Evaporation" by Dr Michel Guillon and Dr Cécile Maïssa has been accepted been published in the peer reviewed journal published by the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists Eye & Contact Lens  (Eye Contact Lens. 2008 Nov;34(6):326-30).

The study, which has involved 240 subjects, demonstrates that contact lenses increase the rate of evaporation of the tear film.  This phenomenon is the likely cause of dry eye complaints in contact lens wearers.  The new findings give direction for managing contact lens wearers complaining of dry eyes.
